Pharmaceutical cleanroom fitted with E-z̈o optical blocks recessed into the walls

The E-z̈o solution

Disinfection built into your walls

E-z̈o is an intense pulsed light disinfection solution that is deconstructed, modular and integrable. Several optical blocks are distributed around the room to treat every zone and remove shadowing effects, where a mobile device reaches its limits.

E-z̈o or Eloane?

Understanding the name

The number after E-z̈o indicates the number of optical blocks in the installation.

Every configuration is designed for a specific application: E-z̈o is never installed identically from one site to another.

The starting point

When a room rejects the standard solution

Some configurations cannot be treated by a mobile device placed in the middle of the room. E-z̈o was developed precisely to answer those cases.

Shadowing effect

1 block

With a single block, part of the room stays in the shade. Multiplying and distributing the optical blocks removes unexposed zones.

Configuration 1 / 4

L-shaped room

Broken geometry: the optical blocks are distributed along the walls to cover both legs.

  • L-shaped room

A broken geometry creates blind angles that a single source never reaches.

  • Decontamination airlock

Airlock for transferring materials or packaging accessories, to be treated in flow.

  • RABS

Restricted Access Barrier System: closed enclosure, restricted access, constrained volume.

  • Isolators

Same logic: the light source must be installed inside the barrier.

The answer

The machine is not moved: it is distributed

A direct consequence: the solution must be designed and adapted to each application, which involves a study phase and, where needed, R&D.

  • 01

    Deconstructed

The machine is split into organs: optical blocks, power unit, control interface. Each one is installed where it is useful.

  • 02

    Modular

From 1 to 4 optical blocks and beyond: quantity and orientation are dictated by the load and the geometry to be treated.

  • 03

    Integrable

The blocks are recessed into the walls of the cleanroom, airlock, RABS or isolator. No floor footprint.

The project process

From study to qualification, in six steps

Integrating a custom IPL system means adapting an existing solution to the site's real constraints (architecture, flows, electrical and safety requirements) while guaranteeing a 3 to 6 log reduction.

  1. Specifications

    Defining the specifications

Round table with the client's HSE, quality assurance and new works departments, together with the Biopulz engineering office. Every requirement collected goes into the specifications.

  2. Follow-up

    Twice-monthly review meetings

Regular reviews with all stakeholders: development progress, site constraints and discussions on the practical integration of E-z̈o into existing rooms.

  3. Documentation

Drafting and review of the IQ / OQ documentation baseline

Installation qualification and operational qualification protocols are drafted, shared and approved with the client before any work on site.

  4. Installation

    Equipment installation

Optical blocks fitted into the walls, power unit in the technical room and control panel in the clean zone, with no structural work.

  5. IQ / OQ

    Installation and operational qualification

IQ: installation check, equipment conformity and documentation. OQ: functional tests, operational parameter checks and verification of results.

  6. PQ

Performance qualification carried out by the client

PQ confirms the 3 to 6 log reduction on the Geobacillus stearothermophilus model strain, under the site's real operating conditions.

Real-world case

An example layout, room by room.

After the six steps, this is what a delivered installation looks like: a 5 × 5 × 3 m pharmaceutical cleanroom, four optical blocks integrated into the walls, the power unit in the technical room and the control panel outside the treated zone.

The number after E-z̈o corresponds to the number of optical blocks needed to disinfect the loads encountered. Other configurations and other shapes are possible: a complete cleanroom, a transfer airlock, a RABS or an isolator.

The right choice

Eloane or E-z̈o?

The choice mainly depends on what you want to disinfect and on the layout of the environment to be treated. Both solutions rely on the same intense pulsed light technology.

Eloane mobile disinfection robot

Mobile robot

Eloane

  • Accessible surfaces in a reasonably sized room
  • Simple geometry: square or rectangular
  • Mobile unit, moved within the room then from room to room
  • 360° rotation and built-in presence detectors
  • Immediate commissioning, no construction work

Integrated solution

E-z̈o

  • Complex layouts: L-shaped rooms, airlocks, RABS, isolators
  • Treatment of loads and packaging accessories
  • Optical blocks distributed to eliminate shadowing
  • Wall-integrated, zero footprint on the floor
  • Study phase, R&D if needed, then IQ / OQ / PQ qualification
